No seriously... do it!

The tech job market has drastically been crashing since January 2023. Many computer science majors in college are graduating without a job lined up for the first time in years!

So much for software engineering will always be in demand, right? Not exactly.

Remember, if you know how to code you know how to create. Yes, coding == creating.

I was lucky enough to secure a full time software engineering position at a leading tech company, much thanks to my internship I had for the company in 2022. If it was not for that company, I also would be unemployed. But guess what... I did not really care. And here's why.

I could code. I had been coding freelance projects for 2 years leading up to graduation and had made over $80,000 doing so. That is a college student's version of a million dollars! The projects I created for clients were software automation tools, web-apps, and simple browser scripts that scraped information off of websites. I would code these deliverables over the weekends I was not partying out with friends and was able to consistently bring in about $5,000+ in profit every single month.

Now this equates to $60,000 which is nowhere near to a software engineer's salary. But this was during college, a time where I had to also balance 18 credits, dating, partying, and sports. Not much free time is there. But if you are expecting you won't have a job... well you got free time. So let's use it! Go to any freelance website-- Upwork, Fiverr, even Reddit-- and start posting about your coding skills and the projects you can create. Before you know it, you might have your first project!

Now that is how you create your OWN career. No corporate America needed!
